Easter Letter

2021

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

On Ash Wednesday, Pope Francis invited us to hear the words of the prophet Joel, “Return to me with all your heart” (Joel 2:12). Moreover, he mentioned that Lent is a journey of a return to God. To return to the place where we belong and return to the place from where we have left. At some point in our lives, we have experienced many such times of Exodus: leaving home to migrate to a different country, to go to a university, to get married, or to travel to a new and unknown place for employment. But also, we may have just as well have left the security of a peaceful heart to engage in sinful situations.

Lent is an exodus, an exodus from slavery to freedom; says Pope Francis. How do we then proceed on our journey back to God? By recognizing our sinful condition, by opening our heart to repentance and by acknowledging the need for God in our lives. My brothers and siters, together, we are on a journey marked by prayer, fasting, and almsgiving which will help us return to God. We do so to grow stronger as disciples of Jesus Christ, but we do not do this alone. We are called to grow together as a joyful, loving community that supports one another and inspires others to seek an encounter with our Lord. This is why we are called together as a parish family.

Your Easter gifts are an important part of bringing our parish’s mission to life. The contributions of parishioners during the Easter season constitute a sizable portion of our annual budget to fund vital ministries and the various areas of operation of our parish. With Mass attendance still limited, our regular collections continue to suffer on a weekly basis.

I humbly ask that you prayerfully consider making a one-time Easter gift of $125 per family or whatever might be possible for you to ensure that our parish ministries and operations may continue. You can send your gift to our parish office, or simply by going to: DONATE. Further, if you are able to resume or increase your weekly contribution, you may do so through our webpage as well. If you are unable to make a financial donation, I ask that you continue to pray for our family of Mary Queen of Heaven Parish; and know that I am praying for you as well.

Our parish community has been able to creatively adapt to how well we reach out and offer the light and the love of God through livestreamed Masses to new online prayer and faith formation groups and more. Thanks to the commitment of our staff and volunteers, in-person worship at Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Stations of the Cross and more continue safely. We do need additional volunteers to assist with Masses given the necessity to register, usher and clean the building; thus, ensuring everyone’s safety. I also invite you to give of your time and talents to the extent that you are able. To volunteer, please call the parish office. Please also know that you are a gift to our MARY QUEEN OF HEAVEN PARISH family. Your presence, whether in spirit or in person, means more to our local Church than you can imagine.

May the Lord be with each one of you during these Lenten and Easter seasons. I continue to pray for you, and ask that you continue to pray for me. May God bless you with Easter Joy, as together, we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord, Jesus Christ!

Pax,
